Is there a dress code and, if so, what is it?
We have a “dress suggestion”, and it is to wear the outfit in your closet that gives you the most joy, that you often want to wear but can never find the occasion. Wear that! Wear the outfit in which you feel like the most you version of you.
Should I bring a gift?
The biggest gift you can bring us is your presence so we are asking guests not to bring gifts. However, if you are still feeling like you want to give us something, then we would welcome a contribution to help us cover the costs of the band, the food, the venue, etc.
Where can I park near the Cameron House?
There is a large paid parking lot on the northwest corner of Queen West and Augusta, about two blocks west of the Cameron House (Green P, Lot 106). There is also limited paid street parking on Queen West ($5/hour; free after midnight) and on Cameron Street ($4.50/hour; free after 9pm). Finally, a couple of blocks south of the Cameron House, there is paid parking at 105 Spadina Avenue (on weekends, $6.50 7am-6pm and $13 6pm-7am).
Will you be serving dinner?
Yes, we will have a buffet-style dinner of Polish and Russian food, served in the backroom after our marriage ceremony. Guests are invited to sit to eat where they like, in the backroom or the front room, or float between the rooms.
Will there be an open bar?
No. However, the Cameron House has a well-stocked bar, with many non-alcoholic and alcoholic drink options.
Please note that the Cameron House is a cash-only bar. There is an ATM there that you can use to withdraw cash ($1.75 per withdrawal).
Why did you choose the Cameron House as the venue to get married?
Because the Cameron House brought us together in a fundamental way! We’ve described the context on the “Our Story” page. It feels like we would neither have met nor be getting married if the Cameron House didn’t exist. It is also where we met, a few meters away from the front room stage where we will tie the legal and emotional knot. Note: The Cameron House is not a wedding venue.
What is a chicken toss?
The chicken toss is a game originally brought to the Cameron House from Winnipeg’s Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club, a music venue that has hosted many of the same bands that have also played at the Cameron House over the years.
The objective of the chicken toss is to, from a distance of about 20 paces, throw a rubber chicken so that it lands into a plastic bucket. Each throw costs one loonie ($1). All the loonies are kept in a jar until someone successfully lands the rubber chicken into the bucket. The person who gets the chicken into the bucket gets all the contents of the jar.
We will be tossing a chicken instead of any sort of bouquet. Guests tossing bouquets of any kind will be asked to read Gloria Steinem‘s complete published works, no exceptions.
The institution of marriage is problematic (see: Gloria Steinem). Why are you getting married?
We will explain at the wedding.
